Regionals - Day 5

Another flying day, another hot day, and in the end a small task.

In the evening we dressed up for the party - theme 'A night at the movies'. There were some fantastic costumes, we have some very creative members and competitors. I still haven't got over Dave Price & Mick Fursden going respectively as a mass murderer and a drug dealer!!

 Do you recognise these people??

 Who ya gonna call?? Ghostbusters!!!
 A brief Encounter....
Get on that horse...meanwhile, winter is coming....(with added pirate)

 Artful dogers...

Regionals - Day 4

Another flying day. Weather looked good so Paul set an AAT, with a possible task of 140km -> 437km! Most people did 200-250km. Lovely sky below....

Friday night was quiz night and this year we crammed in even more people in the clubhouse by dint of moving out most of the furniture.

We had a very jolly evening, there were some fantastic questions, we particularly liked this one:

Regionals - Thurs 6th July

All hands to the desk in the kitchen - even the President gets stuck in.

Another eventually hot and blue day. There was hope so we gridded, but then we all sweltered, and eventually took refuge in the shade down at the clubhouse.

There was a sense of relief from all when we scrubbed. Our sniffer landed out when his engine failed so was the only retrieve of the day!

Some might say it was not the best day to be cleaning trailers for the Juniors Flying Fund, but at least there was cold water involved!!

In the evening Leslie cooked for us all, then Bob King gave a talk on the history of parachuting.

Regionals - Day 3 flying

Gorgeous looking weather, blue sky with lots of tiny fluffy clouds!! Paul set a DHT task of 310km and everyone gridded enthusiastically.

 Most came back too!!

In the evening we had a talk from Shaun Lapworth of Navboys, after his team had organised a pizza tea for all.

Regionals - Mon 3rd July

Sadly a non flying day in the end. Started with us being locked out of control!!
Looked promising to start so we briefed, gridded and then grid squatted. Sky got increasingly grey and flat, and eventually after poor reports from the sniffer it was scrubbed. Just as well as you can see....

In the evening we had some Sports events. The model flying went very well, and there was less cheating this year with the tug of war!!

Regionals - Day 2

Weather still a bit iffy on Sunday but we elected to try and get a day out of it. Still a small task - just 120km - but this time we got most of the pilots round. Perhaps the promise of a gin tasting with the Cotswolds Distillery in the evening was an incentive!!

The evening was great fun. The distillery founder Daniel Szor brought his family and events manager Oliver, and treated us to a talk on the complexities and thinking behind setting up a small whisky distillery in the Cotswolds.

Afterwards we all tried samples of the various spirits on offer - especially the Cotswold gin - and a happy evening was had by all!

Regionals 2017 - Day 1

Day 1 was a flying day, albeit with a small fast task. This took me slightly by surprise having arrived late the previous night in heavy rain, with the club seemingly in cloud, and the expectation of the same again on Saturday! Good to get everyone flying on the first day - it turned into a bit of a dry run for some folks, but scores were low so no great harm done if no great distance flown. Birds eye view of the launch from the scorer's 'office'!!

In the evening we had a super ceildh band, and a BBQ.
