...And Another Autumn Solo!

After Lec's re-solo yesterday after a 42 year gap, congratulations to Charlie Birks who today was sent on his first solo by Bruno.  Well done Charlie! (...and Bruno!)

Autumn Skies and a Solo!

Moreton-In-Marsh Fire Service College
Another decent day with Bruno and Kath running a day course for Norman T and Lech. Congratulations to Lech who re-soloed and made an excellent job of his landing. Gerry K and I went flying in the Falke and had a bimble over to the Cotswold Edge and then to Enstone for tea and cake. Later Keith M and I went off for another local "motor-float" before the growing showers finally encouraged us to pack up.

Friday 26th October

Another great mid week day, Bruno doing a grand job.
Leck, Bob King, Neil Abram, Norman Danby, day course and a few trial lesson all enjoyed a sunny but freezing cold day on the airfield, mean while Phil Z spent most the day watching his battery charger for his new model aircraft.

Wednesday 24th October

Yes we are flying! Bruno and crew waited quite a while for the mist to clear and now we out flying, cloudbase is about 500ft but that's enough for cable break practice and some AFR flights.
Come and fly mid-week whilst we are still open full time.

Beautiful Autumnal Colours

The Supermunk.

Bruno briefs his student.

Ian gets ready to fly the tug.

The Castle Inn at Edgehill looking splendid in the autumn sunshine.
Bruno ran 2 winch day courses on Monday with both  student having productive days. Tuesday was a scrub due to high winds, but today we flew again enjoying the beautiful autumn colours.

Sunday 14 October 2012

Sunday 14th October

Another sunny day, though a frost overnight and foggy in the morning. First flights of the day were Graham Paul & Jon Carlton checking out the conditions - as you can see from Jon's photos there was cloud below winch height but luckily it was very broken:

The cloud got higher so a later K8 flight gave the following shots, but little in the way of lift!

Gail went soon after and got the longest flights of the day in the K8, finding some weak thermals. Lucy, Jane, Terry, Jon Luisada and Tess all had K8 flights too, while Andy, Mary, David Taylor & Bruno flew in DVX. Gary took Tess flying in G-WAVY - the views and cloudscapes were quite beautiful and the vis was good. John D flew Tim & Phil in the motorglider and also the K21, and they thoroughly enjoyed their flying.
Thanks to Jackie & Kevin for logging & winching, Rowan for winching (didn't need the tug today it seemed), and all the others that helped out. Congrats also to Alistair Frier for getting signed off on his Bronze.

Martin Saturday 6th Oct

Saturday was another fine sunny day, second Saturday in a row. What happen to the evil weather goblin?
Not complaining as I had a great flight getting up to cloud base and over to Banbury. I only came down because I got so cold. Each time I go up I learn something new, this time I found a straight line of lift (3 to 4) Never experienced lift before while flying A to B and really enjoyed it. Now have some respectable flight times in my log book. I was beginning to think I would only ever see single figures for flight time.

Saturday 6th October

What a great day!
Plenty of activity today on the field with all of the club gliders out, and a full flying list from start to end. Although we had to wait for the mist to clear before starting flying (and early flights had to navigate clear of small patches of low wispy cloud), we did 45 flights and packed up just after the sun set at around 6:30pm. The sun shone all day, the clouds looked good, and Mary fed us soup and cake in the first 'soup dragon' slot of autumn.

Paul Noonan was in charge with Paul Fletcher helping out and they kept the two seaters busy all day flying with ab initios Amy, Ashley, Rachel and new member Kieran, plus a couple of visitors.  The K8 and Astir were in constant use with many soaring flights and a couple of our more recent soloists improving their personal bests - Martin Jones gained his first bronze soaring flight in DVX, and Nigel Curtiss only just missed his, but still enjoyed his longest solo flight to date. John Rogers had longest flight of the day in his DG, staying up for over two and a half hours, while Lucy, Terry and Paul F had good soaring flights. Other solo pilots included Robin, Tez, Jon Carlton, Jane, Martin L, Tess, Jon Luisada, Clive and Paul Mucha.

The motorglider was kept busy with Robin, Nigel Clarke and Lee all taking it up. Rowan was doing instructor checks with Russell in both the K21 & K13 - poor Russell never made it to the top of any winch launch but did at least enjoy a soaring flight later off the aerotow. Colin, John James, and Lee all flew power, and Roger Andrews flew in for a brief visit. Our comps committee had their first Regionals meeting in preparation for next year. The only one who had a quiet day was tuggie Dave Gould who took Rowan & Russell off to do some spinning in DDB, but otherwise enjoyed a relaxing time on the ground. Thanks to all those who helped out, especially our band of winch drivers. I only wish we'd had a few more days like this in summer!

Martin and DVX 29th/Sept/2012

Saturday September 29th
Took DVX up from the winch, came of at 1100 and headed towards the ridge. Found a very small area of lift before the ridge and rose slowly. As I was climbing the airflow took me SE so I made my way back to the start point loosing height on the way. Found the area of lift again and repeated the climb. Doing this several times I got up to 2,000+ before the lift disappeared. Made my way back and landed after 20+ mins flying.  Longest solo flight to date.

Wednesday 3rd October

Christine & Clive in the Cub, Lee & Scott in Motorglider, Bruno & trial lesson in K13 with John R in the tug all enjoyed the westerly windy conditions. Although bumpy low down today was a great chance to boost your handling skills.
Shenington briefly celebrated Christmas when Richard decided to shot blast a car (and everything else)
