Saturday 20th October

After a couple of horrible weekends, Saturday dawned cold and sunny! The glider canopies misted up as soon as they left the hangar, so we took the opportunity to give them a good clean while we waited - they certainly looked better for it. We had very light south westerly winds to start, so we set up at the North end of the North South runway. After flying with Robin, Lech then drove the winch all day, and the rest of us filled our boots. John W was kept busy with currency checks & cable breaks, while I flew our two visitors.

We all managed multiple solo flights and some extended flights when the sun was on the ground. Sadly the raft of cloud kept moving around so we didn't get any real thermals, but the views were at times amazing. Earlier on there was mist shrouding the Cotswolds, with the Malverns popping out of the top.

Mid afternoon we decamped to the eight acre as the wind had veered westerly! Cue improved launches and a bit of mushroom foraging by Andrew F. Later on, we had veils of haze caps and top cover, then the long shadows of autumn. I got some good photos while being ballast for Gail towards the end of the day. Rare that one is able to take photos on the winch and landing!

Thanks very much to the ground duty crew of Rob F & Andrew F, plus tuggie Rowan. Plus a big thanks to Lech for helping out on the winch.

Forecast is looking good for next weekend so hope to see you there. We have a 'social' on the Saturday evening to celebrate the extra hour in bed/the last late evening till Spring! Food, music and a quiz night!
